Photography and Videography; Content that inspires

We have all heard of the phase; a picture is worth a thousand words.  And for me personally, I feel that to be true.

A photograph is more than just an image of a yogi in an asana.  A photograph of a retreat or event is more than just an image of the location where it was taken.  A photograph provides you with a narrative to tell you a story.  It paints you picture of the person or event to provide you with a visual representation of who they are, where they are from and what it is they are doing.  The purpose is to help and guide you, and to engage you, so that you can feel and enjoy that experience too.  A photograph takes you on a journey.

But if a photograph is worth a thousand words, then where does that leave video?  According to a study by James McQuivey he states;

“If a picture is worth a thousand words; a video has to be worth at least 1.8million”.

So how did he come to this conclusion?  Well, that 1.8million is based on the following calculation;

1 picture = 1,000 words
>Video shoots at 30fps (24fps in the UK!)

1 second video = 30,000 words

30,000 words x 60 seconds (Standard duration of a video promo!)

Video = 1.8million words!

A photograph can grip the viewers attention but for only a short period of time, a video maintains that grip, takes the viewer beyond the initial attraction, into further engagement and on a journey into your world that can leave a long lasting impression.

Video is a powerful tool that will engage your audience, increase your following and expand your business to a wider community and, has the potential to increase your revenue.

We all own a smartphone and we can all record a quick video and post it on social media within seconds (well depending on your wi-fi it may take a little longer!) but that video is out there.  That video is on your Facebook page, your Instagram feed and story (and IGTV if you have it) and that video is reaching a plethora of followers.  But, What is your video saying? and How is it saying it?  Is it engaging your followers?
